You don’t need to name it to create it
Why formal knowledge isn’t a prerequisite for creativity
You don’t need to be able to name the notes to make beautiful music. You don’t need to understand colour theory to paint. And you don’t need to know a plié from a pirouette to dance in your kitchen.
I’m an expert in all things music, including music theory, but some of my favourite and most satisfying creative moments happen when I lean into just doing what feels and sounds right in that moment.
This week’s Creativity Helm newsletter is about giving yourself permission to create from pure curiosity.
I’m challenging the myth that formal knowledge has to be a prerequisite for making something meaningful. Because what if not knowing the technical names for things was actually creative freedom in disguise? What if, instead, we thought of creating intuitively as a beautiful form of rebellion?
All you have to do is give yourself permission to get started.
